October 25, 2014 (Lemon Grove)-- The "History Alive" lecture series, sponsored by the Lemon Grove Historical Society, will continue on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in the H. Lee House Cultural Center, 3205 Olive, Lemon Grove, with a presentation by the City's charismatic school superintendent, Ernest Anastos, related to the series' current theme, "The Future of Lemon Grove."

FIVE SALES, ONE LOCATION BENEFIT HERITAGE OF AMERICAS MUSEUM CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS: NOW THROUGH OCT. 31

 

October 22, 2014 (Rancho San Diego, CA)-- The Heritage of the Americas Museum, located on the campus of Cuyamaca College in Rancho San Diego, is holding a huge benefit sale to support the Museum’s programs for local elementary school children.  Over 4,000 students come to the Museum each school year for docent-led tours.  Volunteers also make presentations in school classrooms.  The sale is called “Five Sales! One Location!” and is an Art Sale, Rummage Sale, Jewelry Sale, Gems and Minerals Sale, and a Fossils Sale.  Items for sale are donated by Museum members, over 300 households.

October 18, 2014 (El Cajon )—Hundreds of handmade and handcrafted items by local artists and artisans will be available at an Arts and Crafts Fair on Saturday, October 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 500 Farrugut Circle in El Cajon.  All proceeds will benefit local charities.

Fundraiser for East County nonprofit takes place Oct. 17 at Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa

October 9, 2014 (San Diego) - John Carney, one of the top scoring players in NFL history, will be the Keynote Speaker at the Eric Paredes Save a Heart, Save a Life Gala on Friday, October 17.  The event will begin at  6 p.m. at the Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa on Mission Bay.  Carney, who ranks fourth on the all-time pro football scoring list, played half of his 22-year career with the San Diego Chargers.

October 9, 2014 (Campo)--It’s “All aboard” the Pumpkin Express at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo. The 10th annual Halloween seasonal rides take place Saturday and Sunday from October 11 through October 26, with trains departing three times daily.

October 9, 2014 (La Mesa)--Dog owners: Dress yourself and canine companion(s) in Halloween costume and come to the second annual “Pooch in the Park” Fun Dog Show to be held Saturday, October 11, from 9 am to noon at Canine Corners Dog Park in Harry Griffen Regional Park, located at 9550 Milden Street, in La Mesa.  Entrance to the event is free; the contest entrance fee is $20 for up to two dogs.

ALPINE WOMAN'S CLUB CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION OCT. 4

 

October 3, 2014 (Alpine) – The Alpine Woman’s Club is having a party and everyone is welcome! Come join in on the fun at the Alpine Historic Town Hall, 2156 Alpine Blvd. on Saturday, October 4th, 2014. The celebration begins at 10:00 a.m. and goes until 4 p.m.  There will have activities for children of all ages; exhibits; demonstrations; display of "Time Capsule" items, historical information about the club; a melodrama; and square dancing. Food may be purchased at the event and there will be a few surprises! We will also be raffling off a beautiful handmade quilt.

September 24, 2014 (La Mesa)--The City of La Mesa will host its fifth annual Senior Expo on Thursday, October 9, 2014.  With a wide variety of speakers and exhibitors, Senior Expo will offer free "one-stop shopping" for all adults facing life changes that may affect their independence, or for those who would like great tips on safety and security.  Senior Expo will be held at the La Mesa Community Center, 4975 Memorial Drive, La Mesa 91942, from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, and is supported by funding from the San Diego Association of Governments.

BRATS, BEER AND MUCH MORE: LA MESA OKTOBERFEST OCT. 3-5

 

September 22, 2014 (La Mesa)--The La Mesa Oktoberfest is one of East County’s biggest street festivals, drawing 200,000 people every year. This year’s Oktoberfest will be held October 3-5 in the heart of La Mesa’s downtown village on La Mesa  Boulevard between 4th Avenue and Acadia.

The event, sponsored by the La Mesa Chamber of Commerce and the La Mesa Village Merchants Association, began as a small street fair over 35 years ago. Now the three-day bash features over 250 vendors, food including German bratwurst and a beer garden, kids’ activities and entertainment ranging from German music to classic rock and roll.

September 20, 2014 (Potrero) –You’re invited to join the East County Vintners Wine Group for its second annual Mountain Empire Country Harvest Celebration on Saturday, October 11 from 12 noon to sundown. The festivities take place at the Jim and Janet Wright Ranch and Vineyard in scenic Potrero, just 30 minutes east from Jamul off Highway 94/Campo Road. Smokey barbecue with all the trimmings and wine sampling by local vineyards and wineries are among the activities, along with a silent auction and door prizes.

September 19, 2014 (San Diego)--Over 100 different musical acts on eight stages are slated for the 2014 Adams Avenue Street Fair on September 27 and 28, which is one of the largest free music street fairs in California, according to the organizers. It also includes four beer gardens, 300 food and craft vendors, and giant carnival rides.
