January 2, 2012 (El Cajon)—An elderly couple and their dog have lost their trailer home in a fire which was reported last night at 9:20 p.m.  Heartland Fire & Rescue in El Cajon responded to the blaze at the Paradise Trailer Home Park in the 1300 block of East Main Street in El Cajon.

As fire crews arrived on scene, smoke and flames were seen coming from a trailer home in space #8.  El Cajon firefighters, with assistance from the San Miguel Fire Protection District, had the fire knocked down in five minutes. This quick response kept the fire from reaching other nearby trailer homes.

The couple and their dog were at home at the time of the fire and were able to escape unharmed. The residents said they would be staying with family and declined assistance from the American Red Cross.

The exact cause of the fire is now under investigation, but appears to be accidental in nature. The trailer home is considered a total loss, with damage estimated at $8,000.
