FIRE IN THE SKIES OF EAST COUNTY: PERSEID METEOR SHOWERS AUGUST 11

August 10, 2012 (East County) – The Perseid Meteor Showers will be peaking August 11 and 12 this year.  The meteor shower occurs every August when the Earth passes through space debris left by Comet Swift-Tuttle.  The meteors are bright and often leave trails of luminous gas.  There are a number of events across East County to participate in and enjoy the show.

In Borrego Springs, the Borrego Springs Resort & Spa offering Rain of Fire: The 2012 Perseid Meteor Shower August 11/12.  The Star Package with Hotel includes and indoor program, overnight outdoor telescope viewing with astronomer Dennis Mammana, dinner and deluxe accommodations for $89 per person, double occupancy or $125.30 per person, single occupancy. A Star Package without hotel is also available and includes all of the above except the deluxe accommodations.  The price per person for this package is $52.70.

Sacred Rocks Reserve is another spot to enjoy the meteor shower.  Located at 1331 Shasta Way in Boulevard, the campground offers a dark sky and a stargazing plateau.  The cost is $5 or free with a stay in the campground.
