September 21, 2016 (La Mesa) — A firefighter was injured battling a blaze at a liquor store in the 6000 block of Lake Murray Boulevard late last night.  The liquor store was at the corner of  Lake Murray Blvd. and El Paso Street.

Heartland  Fire & Rescue crews responded at 11:15 p.m. to find fire coming through the roof.  A second alarm was called, bringing additional fire engines and manpower.

The fire was fought from the exterior due to heavy fire conditions on arrival, according to a Heartland  Fire press release.  The flames were extinguished in 20 minutes but crews remained on scene throughout the night.

The fire was contained to the liquor store building with minor damage to adjacent structures. Cause remains under investigation.

Damage is estimated at $500,000 for the structure and $300,000 for its contents.

The injured firefighter was taken to Grossmont Hospital for evaluation.
