April 13, 2017 (Fletcher Hills) - Steve and Deborah Loeffler of El Cajon have built and donated an intricate dollhouse to auction at the upcoming silent auction at USO San Diego’s 76th Annual Stars and Stripes Gala on May 20th.  The dollhouse was a true labor of love, built and furnished with over 1,000 hours of work by the Fletcher Hills couple.

The house is a replica of many Craftsman-style bungalows found around San Diego, especially in Kensington, North Park, and Coronado. The Marstron House- the first Arts & Crafts home built in San Diego and now owned by the San Diego Historical Society- was an inspiration for the dollhouse; many of the its exact features are replicated in the doll house.

The handmade craftsman-style bungalow dollhouse is fully electrified with lighting inside and out and even furnished, also featuring a grandfather reading to his granddaughter. Most of the paintings inside the dollhouse are original art painted by artists in France. The roof consists of over 1,300 hand-dyed cedar shingles with copper gutters, each one is hand cut and glued into place. The classic craftsman front porch is hand-planked in Mahogany and has outlets for lamps, holiday lights, and whatever the owners want to electrify. The exterior is painted in a Frank Lloyd Wright set of colors, and the inner lower floors are hand-planked Alder wood, and edged and finished. The walkway is natural slate, with an added birdbath replete with birds.

Steve Loeffler, is a retired Rear Admiral of the US NAVY, and a current Board Member of USO San Diego, dedicated to supporting our military and their families.

The 76th annual Stars and Stripes Gala has a theme this year of “Land of the Free…Because of the Brave.   Below are details:
