June 17, 2018 (El Cajon) - Kaleo Church of El Cajon is hosting a free basketball camp at Cajon Valley Middle School at 550 East Park Avenue.  It will run Monday through Friday (June 18-22), 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Anybody ages 5-17 is welcome.

If the child attending hasn't pre-registered they can simply show up any day at 9:00 a.m., but their parent will need to sign a release form on site before they can participate.

The camp will meet at the school’s outdoor basketball courts and there will also be portable adjustable basketball hoops for beginners.

Professional basketball player Matt Watnemo will lead instruction.  He plays pro basketball in Spain where he also serves as a missionary.

Church staff and coaches will facilitate basketball drills at 10 different courts with the help of volunteers from the church and visitors from across the country.

A youth group from Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota will be helping out and more than a dozen students from the United States Naval Academy will be on site working with the kids.

He added, “A lot of kids from immigrant and refugee families come to our camp. Some of them don't have a lot of activities available to them and their parents are happy to find fun outdoor activities for them.”

Van Fleet says his church wants to be of service to the city of El Cajon.  During a 15-minute snack break each day, religious teaching will be offered to participants.
