East County Chaldean Bishop Jammo to personally deliver donations from Iraqi Christian Relief Fund fundraiser to persecuted Christians in Iraq

East County News Service

August 27, 2014 (El Cajon) Tonight at 7 p.m.,  over 700 San Diegans, including the Chaldean community, will gather in solidarity to raise funds for persecuted Iraqi Christians, at the Iraqi Christian Relief Fund (ICRF) fundraiser at St Peters Chaldean Cathedral in Rancho San Diego.

This is the first major fundraiser in San Diego for persecuted Iraqi Christians.

Speakers at the fundraiser showing unity with Iraqi Christians, will include Dr. Jim Garlow, Senior Pastor of Skyline Church in Rancho San Diego.

"These persecuted Iraqi citizens are family members of our Chaldean community here in the East County. We stand shoulder to shoulder in solidarity with them through this genocide tragedy." says Dr. Jim Garlow. "Throughout history, there have been times when good people failed to stand up and attempt to defend those being slaughtered: the 6 million Jews in Europe in the 1930s and 1940s, the 1.5 million Armenians in the early 1900's, along with 700,000 Chaldeans. Some chose to be silent. We cannot. We must not!."

Over 200,000 Iraqi Christians have been left homeless by Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), and have been told: "Convert to Islam, leave, or die by the sword."

"ISIS gave Iraqi Christians only 48 hours to leave their homes without any possessions, only clothing. These Iraqi Christian homes now belong to the Islamic State, and are marked with an Arabic "N" - meaning Nazarene, or follower of Jesus Christ."  says Kamal Alsawaf, Co-Chairman of the ICRF fundraiser , and member of St. Peter Chaldean Church "These homeless Christians are currently living midst ruins, in churches, on the streets, wherever they can lay their mat. Some have fled to Turkey, and others made it to Lebanon. They need our help. And we intend to help then in a big way!"

The owners of A-1 Self Storage have already contributed a $150,000 matching grant towards the fundraiser. The additional $150,000 is close to being raised. ICRF fundraising committee members are confident that over $300,000 will be raised at the fundraiser.

The tax deductible donations will be delivered directly to Iraq by Bishop Jammo. 100% of the funds raised will go directly toward buying clothing, food, medicine, and basic necessities to help homeless Iraqi Christians.

In addition to Chaldean Bishop Jammo speaking at the fundraiser, an East County Chaldean resident (whose brother and fiancé were recently executed in Iraq by ISIS) will provide testimonial.

The event will be Emceed by Mark Larson, of The Mark Larson Show KCBQ AM1170.
