November 15, 2009 (Lakeside) - Community leaders turned out for a grand opening at Garden Fresh Market in Lakeside last weekend, where children frolicked down a giant inflatable slide as parents shopped and savored free barbecued hotdogs and tacos.

“We have more products now,” said owner Noko Kako, an Iraqi Chaldean immigrant who also owns markets in Chula Vista and San Diego. “We have a pizza restaurant—and we do delivery.” The in-store deli counter also serves up sub sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, calzones, fish and chips, shrimp baskets and more.

Located at 12580 Lakeshore Drive, the market is in the former Harvest Farms building. Murals on the walls reflect Lakeside’s western heritage, complete with a cattle drive painted over the meat counter. The store has a full produce department, fresh flowers, clean interior, and a walk-in “beer cave”, among other attractions.

Lakeside Chamber of Commerce ambassadors hosted a ribbon cutting to celebrate the official grand opening of Garden Fresh Market, which actually opened its doors in August.

As customers return and spread the word about the new market in town, Kako confirmed, “Business is picking up.”
