The County Democratic Party seeks community-minded Democrats to serve on city councils, school boards, water boards and other local boards and commissions. In its efforts to recruit candidates for 2010, the Party is holding a training event for local Democrats planning or considering running for office. The event will be held Saturday, July 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Miramar College.

This "Getting Ready to Run" training will include workshops on the following: • What to expect as a candidate and how to organize your community outreach • Fundamentals of filing, financial reporting, and legal compliance • An overview of campaign planning and the Democratic Party's role This event is solely for current or potential candidates -- not campaign managers, volunteers, or others. (Later trainings will be open to campaign aides.) Space is limited. For information or to reserve your spot: (858) 277-3367. Or e-mail  ryan@sddemocrats.org. Openings on the ballot for next year include not only federal and state offices, but alsothe County Board of Supervisors, 18 municipalities, 48 boards of education, and 72 special districts in San Diego County. A press release from the Democratic Party concludes, “We intend to field candidates in every race.”

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the candidate training is free. In fact there is a nominal cost to participate.
