September 22, 2016 (San Diego) - After a good series against the Diamondbacks (albeit not getting the sweep), the Padres welcomed the Giants to Petco Park.  Jeff Samardzija would be their first pitcher to face against Christian Friedrich.

It was a pitcher’s duel through the eighth when Angel Pagan saved the game from going to extra innings and hit a blooper to right that scored Joe Panik for his 50th RBI of the year to make it 1-0 Giants.  Hunter Pence ripped a double to left--past third--and scored Eduardo Nunez and the Giants led 2-0.

In the Padres’ half of the eighth, the Poway kid tried to salvage the game with a moon shot to right field to narrow the deficit to 2-1.  But the Giants would hang on for once and take game one.

Game two is 30 minutes later tomorrow night at 7:40 p.m.  Albert Suarez will face Edwin Jackson.
