May 19, 2016 (San Diego) - The Padres looked to avoid the sweep in tonight’s game three against the Giants.  James Shields started for the Padres against Jeff Samardzija for San Francisco.

San Francisco had other ideas.  They brought the pressure early in the first, and when Buster Posey hit a fly ball to right field, Matt Kemp threw to third to get an out, but Denard Span crossed the plate and the Giants took a 1-0 lead.

But in the second, the Giants were greeted by the return of Lil Ninja.  Alexi Amarista hit a ground ball to right field for his first extra base hit of the season to drive home Christian Bethancourt and tie the game at one.

In the fourth, Hunter Pence came through again for the Giants with a line drive up the middle to drive in Matt Duffy and San Francisco went up 2-1, just like last night.

The Giants added one more in the seventh from--guess-who--Brandon Crawford and they took a 3-1 lead to the end of the game and a series sweep against the Padres.  The Giants have won seven games out of seven on a road trip for the first time since 1913 when they were still the New York Giants playing at the Polo Grounds.

The NL West rivalries aren’t done yet; the Dodgers come to Petco tomorrow.  The first pitch is at 7:40 p.m.
