December 4, 2015 - (La Mesa) - It's a miracle time of year, and if you are familiar with the story of Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan, The Miracle Worker definitely qualifies. The play is more the story of teacher Annie Sullivan, and Bella Snyder pulled off this strong character beautifully.

Ingrid Brinton attacked the role of the blind, deaf, mute and spoiled child, Heler Keller, with extreme misbehavior issues. showing the eagerness of the child she was portraying.

Annie Sullivan, was just 20 years old herself. She had been blind, been through several eye operations, and had the guilt of her brother’s death when she took on the job of teaching Helen. She also had to fight against Helen's family for what they would call today enabling he, or in Helen's case, giving her everything she wanted because they felt sorry for her.

I was quite impressed by the maturity Jennifer Burch showed in the role of Helen's mother. Nicholas Castillo did a great job bringing Helen's brother to life. Matt Tyssee played the father. Autumn Higginbotham also did nice job as Aunt Eve.

Learning a piece of history through plays is more interesting than reading a history book. Too bad more students didn't choose to attend.

Marissa Musgrove, director, and her co-directer of other school plays have been improving the program at Grossmont in the last couple of years since i've started to come out. Last year they made a trailer video to get people to attend, the first time I had seen a school do this. For this show they used the Playbill format for their program. That's what San Diego Broadway uses. Although I did like Grossmont’s use of the photo of the actress's that played Annie and Helen in a tender scene from the play, I normally think Playbill boring but professional. Keep up the good work Foothillers.

If you have some time December 9 -12 at 7:00 p.m., these students would appreciate your support.
