January 13, 2018 (Seattle) - Seniors Ashley Henderson and Bonnie Draxler each finished second in their respective events and first among collegiate athletes to lead the No. 22 San Diego State track and field team Saturday at the UW Preview in Seattle.

Henderson took second in the finals of the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.33 seconds, only trailing seven-time long jump world champion Brittany Reese (7.31). Heading into Saturday, only three other Division I athletes had run faster than Henderson’s 7.33. The 7.33 was 0.10 seconds faster than her prelim time of 7.43.

Draxler, meanwhile, set an indoor personal best by clearing 13 feet, 9 ¾ inches (4.21m) to finish second behind 2016 Olympian Diamara Planell Cruz of Puerto Rico. Each athlete had the same mark, but Cruz won the jump-off. The 13-09.75 is the sixth-best mark in Aztec indoor history and the fourth best in DI (entering Saturday).

Jalyn Harris had a fine collegiate debut with SDSU, taking third out of 46 in the 400 in 56.29 and teaming up with Lakin Hatcher, Lisa-Anne Barrow and Sakura Roberson to run the seventh-fastest indoor 4x400 in school history with at time of 3:44.91. Only Stanford’s 3:41.54 was faster on the day.

Barrow was busy as well, finishing fourth in the long jump with a leap of 18-04.50 (5.60m), taking 10th in the 200 (24.74) and running a leg in the aforementioned 4x400.

Freshman Asia Smith tied for fifth in the high jump (5-03.00 (1.60m)) in her collegiate debut and also ran a leg of the eighth-place 4x400 (4:00.28) along with Jasmine Young, Ellison Grove and Maya Brosch.

Aliyah Woodall came in sixth in the triple jump (38-02.25 (11.64m)) in her San Diego State and collegiate debut, while Je’Neal Ainsworth was seventh in 38-01.50 (11.62m).

Lakin Hatcher took seventh in the 400 in 57.68 and Hannah Taylor was 10th in the high jump with a height of 5-03.00 (1.60m).

The Aztecs are next in action on Jan. 27 at the New Mexico Team Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.
