July 8, 2010 (La Mesa) -- What does author Jack Brandais do when he’s not busy being the media spokesperson for the San Diego Unified School District, writing a driving column, or reviewing new cars? He hits the weekly Back to the 50’s car show in La Mesa! On July 22 at 6 pm, he’ll be signing copies of his book, Weekend Driver San Diego, at the Readers Inc. bookstore in the heart of La Mesa village.

Readers, Inc. is an independent, local, family-owned bookstore which opened in the quaint La Mesa Village in December, 2008. With an operating model train navigating the perimeter and aquariums filled with live snakes and turtles, the shop delights children and the young at heart. While the owners primarily cater to kids, the store also carries a selection of general-interest titles for adults. On the evening of July 22nd, children can enjoy story time while Mom and Dad talk to Jack about the best places in the county to hit the road.

Weekend Driver San Diego is a guide to day drives in and around San Diego and is a great guidebook for exploring the county. The book includes maps, photos, driving directions, historical information, and a comprehensive index. Many of the trips originally ran as part of the Weekend Driver feature in the Wheels section of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
