April 2, 2015 (La Mesa)—Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. has announced plans to open a store in La Mesa on Grossmont Boulevard, off Jackson Drive, in the same center as Toys R Us and the new Ross for Less store.  The national chain of craft and home décor stores based in Oklahoma operates over 650 stores and is listed by Forbes and Fortune magazine among the nation’s largest retail companies.

Hobby Lobby drew national controversy when it filed suit to challenge the Affordable Care Act. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Hobby Lobby did not have to pay for certain forms of birth control for its employees due to religious objections. The decision applied only to closely held family companies such as Hobby Lobby, which is owned by conservative Christians.

The new store is expected to hire about 35 to 50 employees, paying $15 an hour for full-time and $10 an hour for part-time workers, La Mesa Today has reported. Hobby Lobby offers supplies for floral, fabric, needle art, custom framing, baskets, home accents, wearable art, arts and crafts, jewelry making, scrapbooking and paper crafts.

Store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Hobby Lobby is closed on Sunday.  For more information visit www.hobbylobby.com
