January 13, 2017 (San Diego) – Assemblywoman Shirley Weber (D-San Diego) invites you to join her in honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day by participating in a Day of Reading Around the Region on Monday, January 16. This is a program championed by the national sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., an organization of educators that I have been a member of for four decades.

Participation in a Day of Reading Around the Region is really simple, it only requires that you commit to read for one hour on January 16 which is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

If one hour of consistent reading isn't possible, divide the time into 30, 20, or 15-minute sessions. You can read as an individual whether at home or in a library. You can make it a fun group activity by reading at a school, a church gathering, or wherever you decide.

“Feel free to send a picture of yourself, or your group, participating in this initiative for a chance to be featured in our photo collage,” Assemblywoman Weber adds
