December 25, 2011 (La Mesa)—Walter Barrios, 22, of La Mesa is under arrest for attempting to rob a 15-year-old skateboarder at  knife point. La Mesa Police officers responded to the incident in the 8500 block of Dallas Street last night around 6 p.m.

The victim told police he was riding his skateboard on the sidewalk when he was confronted by the suspect, who pointed a large hunting knife at the teen and demanded property.

When the victim refused to give up his property, the would-be robber fled toward a home at 8526 Dallas Street. The victim went home and told his father and brother about the robbery. The victim’s father and brother went to confront the suspect at the home and were greeted at the door by the suspect, who was now armed with a small pocket knife. The victim’s father and brother left the house and called police.

During the investigation, the suspect was located in the back yard of 8526 Dallas Street. The suspect ran from officers and was eventually cornered on the neighbor’s roof top. After several minutes of negotiation, the suspect came down from the roof and was taken into custody without further incident.

Barrios was booked into San Diego County Jail for attempted robbery and brandishing a knife.
