April 19, 2014 (La Mesa) – A 71-year-old La Mesa man, Michael James Bliss, died at the scene of a three-car collision on I-8 west of 70th Street that occurred last night at 10:42 p.m.

According to CHP officer Kevin Pearlstein, the La Mesa man was driving a 1989 Mercedes that drifted into the center divider and struck a concrete wall, blocking a traffic lane.

The Mercedes was then struck by a Pontiac Drive driven by an El Cajon man, 20.  A Honda Accord driven by a 24-year-old Santee man then struck both vehicles.

The other two drivers were not injured.  The fatally injured victim was apparently not wearing a seatbelt, CHP reports.  The collision remains under investigation, however drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash.
