February 6, 2011 (Escondido) Large crowds turned out to celebrate the Lunar New Year and view a four-ton Jade Buddha. the largest in the world carved from gemston quality jade, all at the Escondido Center for the Arts during a week-long celebration.

Traditional decorations adorned an outdoor stage where activities included lion dancing, chants, songs, and a martial arts demonstration. Some paused to offer prayers, while the merely curious marveled at the Jade Buddha and Universal Peace exhibition, which will be on display through today.

The Jade Buddha for Universal Peace is 2.7 meters high and sits on an alabaster throne 1.4 meters high. The Jade Buddha itself has been valued at $5 million. Its size and beauty make it a wonder of the world. The Buddha inside the Mahabodhi Stupa in Bodh Gaya (India) is the model for the Great Jade Buddha.

The Jade Buddha is an exhibit that has been traveling around the world; people of all religions are invited to come and reflect on peace.
