August 16, 2016 (Tampa Bay) - The Padres couldn’t beat a struggling Rays team last night and hoped for a better result tonight with Edwin Jackson on the mound against Blake Snell for the Rays.

Nothing happened until the second when the Rays struck in a big way.  Luke Maile doubled, scoring three and the Rays went up 3-0.

In the third, the Logans struck again.  Logan Morrison doubled and drove in two and the Rays led 5-0.  Maile singled, scoring Morrison and the score was 6-0.  Nick Franklin singled, scoring Corey Dickerson (no relation to Alex) and the Rays led 7-0.

The Padres chipped away a little bit in the fourth with the bases loaded.  Alexei Ramirez walked, scoring Derek Norris and the Rays’ lead was cut to 6 at 7-1.

In the Rays’ half of the fourth, Brad Miller hit his 23rd home run of the season for an 8-1 Tampa Bay lead.

Franklin struck again in the fifth with a two-run homer that brought the Rays to double-digits with a 10-1 lead.  Miller hit another homer, this time for two runs and the Rays led 12-1.

More came in the seventh with Dickerson’s solo homer and the Rays took a 12 run lead, 13-1.

The Rays just wouldn’t stop.  Evan Longoria hit a two-run homer in the seventh and the lead was 15-1.  The slaughter finally ended, but the Rays would emerge from the battle victorious as they take game two 15-1.

Be ready to wake up early or stream the game at work tomorrow; it’s a 10:10 a.m. start.
