February 9, 2017 (Alpine) – Nylah, a Great Pyrenees dog that wandered out of an open gate in Alpine last Friday was found six miles away in the Japatul Road area on Tuesday with a bullet wound through her head. But miraculously, she survived.

Her owner is outraged that someone shot the friendly dog from behind and hopes the shooter will be found.  A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist with veterinary bills and to offer a reward for information leading to find whoever shot the dog.

“I was so worried about coyotes getting her or someone picking her up and trying to keep her because she is such a beautiful sweet girl,” she posted on the Alpine Community Network. “Never once did I worry about a human hurting my dog…but they did.”

A veterinarian told 10 News that the bullet barely missed Nylah’s brain, scraped the top of her skull and exited out the back of her head.  The veterinary staff voiced shock that Nylah survived. Thankfully, she is now home with her owners, who are hopeful that the shooter will be caught before anyone else’s dog is harmed.
