MAJOR FLOODING IN MISSION VALLEY

December 22, 2010 (San Diego) 2 pm.--Over 1,000 people are being evacuated by life guards from the Handlery Hotel and the Archstone Apartments in Mission Valley after the San Diego River overflowed its banks, Incident Page Network reports. Qualcomm Stadium’s field and parking lot are also flooded, though organizers say tomorrow’s Poinsettia Bowl will be played.

Fashion Valley Mission Valley malls remain open despite flooding of lower parking lot levels.  Fashion Valley can only be accessed from the west end of Friars Road, as the eastern portion is closed.  Meanwhile at Grossmont Center and Parkway Plaza in La Mesa, lots were full as some East County shoppers opted to do last-minute holiday shopping closer to home.

  • Sig Alert Federal Blvd. onramp to 94 westbound is closed to to a mudslide and flooding.
  • Sig Alert S/B traffic on N. Torrey Pines Road between Torrey Pines Scenic and Callan Road will be closed until further. N/B traffic is open.
  • Sig Alert 6th Ave ramp from SB 163 closed due to rocks in the roadway
  • Sig Alert N/B Torrey Pines between Dunaway and Pottery park due to tree blocking the roadway. S/B traffic is open.
  • Sig Alert Friars road between Ulric St and Fashion Valley Road (flooding)
  • Sig Alert Cam de la Reina at Cam Del Arroyo closed to through traffic (residents in condos allowed in, Mission Center between Cam de la Reina and Hazard closed, Qualcomm Way closed at Cam de la Reina, Cam Del Este/Rio San Diego/Cam de la Reina, 10700 SD Mission flooded, 3900 Cam Del Rio North, Ward Rd closed in the area as well.
  • Sig Alert South Mission Beach and Mission Beach flooded various locations
  • Sig Alert Pacific Beach Drive and Dawes flooded
  • Sig Alert dated 12-21-10 still in effect for Sorrento Valley area.
  • An oak tree is across the roadway at Mussey Grade Road in Ramona, CHP just advised at 3:15 p.m.
  • Mission Center Road closed due to flooding and portions of the roadway collapsed. Floodwaters on Camino del Rio Norte forced closure of some businesses including car dealerships.
