MAN IN WOMAN’S CLOTHES TRIES TO SNATCH TODDLER FROM WOMAN’S ARMS

 Update March 2, 2011: Police have released a composite sketch and more details of the suspect.

March 1, 2011 (San Diego) – Witnesses called 911 at 3:17 yesterday afternoon to report a man dressed as a woman who tried to kidnap a small child.

 

According to San Diego Police, the woman was carrying two toddlers at 35th and Polk Avenue in San Diego when the suspect grabbed one of the toddlers and tried to pull the child from her arms.  He spoke Spanish, but is described as a black man in feminine attire. 

 

He ordered her to let the child go in Spanish, but the woman was able to pull away and scream.

 

Witnesses report the suspect as a dark-skinned black male, 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing around 180 pounds. He had a small Afro, possibly a wig, and was dressed in women’s clothing including a pink and blue woman’s shirt and black pants.  .

 

Lt. Andra Brown reports new information:  "The suspect had a vertical 1” scar above his right eyebrow and a very distinctive set of raised dots on his forehead in the pattern of an inverted chevron. The dot pattern was between the hairline and eyebrows and formed a point near the bridge of his nose. The suspect spoke “good” Spanish but not as a native speaker, according to the mother."

 

He was last seen on foot heading northbound in the east alley of 4000 36th, then eastbound on Polk. SDPD’s Mid-City division is handling the investigation.  Anyone with information related to the above incident(s) is encouraged to call the listed Command handling the investigation or Crime Stoppers at 888-540-8477.
