December 4, 2011 (San Diego's East County) -- This is the time of year when many residents of East County look for opportunities to get healthy, to try new activities and to volunteer. The Y is a place where members like Jason Dillaha can create meaningful change in their lives and in their community. When Jason walked through the front doors of the East County Family YMCA in January of 2006, he was a man with little hope. “I had suffered a neck injury and had been through the Worker’s Compensation System. After two years of doing rehab and being on many prescriptions, I was “cut loose” and on my own.
“The YMCA saved my life,” is what Jason tells people when they meet. ”I truly believe that had I not been welcomed so warmly, and given the membership at little cost, I would have died.” Now, almost five years later, Jason is over 50 pounds lighter and has learned a healthy lifestyle. “I go to the Y just about every day and I love it! Thank you YMCA!”
