MONARCH MANIA TAKES WING IN ALPINE: SAGE & SONGBIRDS FALL FESTIVAL SEPT. 25

September 18, 2010 (Alpine) -- After 13 wildly successful spring festivals, Sage & Songbirds s launching its first-ever Fall Festival in Alpine on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Viejas Outlet Center. Admission is free. Monarch Mania will feature a live Monarch butterfly release at 2 p.m., caterpillar races, a plant sale of specialty butterfly host plants, and a chrysalis tree where onlookers will watch butterflies emerge.

 

Grow-your-own-butterfly kits will be available for those who want to watch the metamorphosis of a Monarch caterpillar as he munches milkweed on his way to being a chrysalis, culminating with the emergence of a Monarch butterfly. Ongoing educational programs will be held throughout the day, with special guests to include live owls, hawks, hummingbirds, snakes, lizards, spiders and more.

 

A variety of vendors will offer unique items for purchase from birdhouses to wind chimes, homemade jams to organic quinoa, and garden art.

 

Four theme-packaged opportunity baskets will be offered, each overflowing with hundreds of dollars of merchandise; -and tickets are just $1 each.These include Gardeners Goodies; Pamper Me salon and spa package; Wine & Dine certificates at over a dozen local restaurants, and A Day at Viejas collection of merchant gifts from Viejas Outlet Center (www.shopviejas.com).

 

Sage & Songbirds is a project of CHIRP for Garden Wildlife, Inc., a 501(c)3 corporation. Proceeds benefit habitat education for our schoolyards and backyards.
