March 7, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) – This Sunday at 9 p.m., NBC TV will air a special edition of Dateline called “Escape: The Great California Fire.”

NBC Sports’ Josh Elliott will host the special hour with survivors of the Cedar Fire, who will chronicle their stories of survival before and after the 2003 Cedar Fire, the worst firestorm in California history.

The episode, the second installment of  the three-part “Escape” series, chronicles the first night and following day of the Cedar Fire, reconnecting more than a dozen individuals whose lives were forever changed by this natural disaster, including families who escaped with their children.

The series debut aired last weekend covered the Costa Concordia shipwreck sinking off the coast of Italy.  Next Sunday, March 15, the show will focus on survivors of the Indian Ocean tsunami that devastated Thailand in 2004.

Viewers are invited to join the conversation on social media and share their own stories of survival using #ESCAPE. For more information on the “ESCAPE” series visit NBCNews.com/Dateline.

The Cedar Fire

A family members house was nearly burned but was saved by friends and neighbors. They watered their property and roof, a neighbor owned a water truck. He made regular trips to spray water around the area. Nearby homes were lost to the fire. I took a truckload of items from their tack room including an irreplaceable old saddle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cedar_Fire
