August 20, 2016 (San Diego) - Two big wins.  Two straight wins.  When’s the last time that happened?  The Padres looked to make it three in a row tonight and take the series from the Dbacks regardless of what happens tomorrow.  Clayton Richard started on the mound for the Padres against Robbie Ray for Arizona.

Unlike so many of the Padres’ games this season, this one stayed quiet until the fifth inning when Brandon Drury grounded into a double play, scoring Wellington Castillo and the snakes went up 1-0.

But in the bottom of the fifth, the new guy stole the show.  Patrick Kivlehan, just called up today, launched a solo home run to tie the game at one.

But the new kids’ effort was to no avail.  Phil Gosselin scored on an error in the sixth and the Dbacks went up 2-1.  That was all they needed to take game three 2-1.

Tomorrow’s matinee finale will be at 1:40 p.m.

Transaction news:

  • Padres recall Patrick Kivlehan and Keith Hessler from El Paso
  • Option Nick Noonan and Ryan Buchter back to El Paso
