December 5, 2016 (Ramona) – A dedication ceremony was held in Ramona last week for a new public trail along San Vicente Road.

A two-mile section of the San Vicente road from Warnock Drive through Wildcat Canyon to the entrance of San Diego Country Estates has been widened and straightened, also adding a 10-foot-wide multi-use trail alongside the roadway.

It’s all part of a decades-long effort by the community to improve safety on San Vicente, where many serious traffic accidents including several fatality crashes have occurred. The roadway is one of the major access routes to Barona Resort and Casino as well as a back route from Ramona to downtown Lakeside.

The $22 million project was completed two months ago and so far, not a single serious accident has occurred, according to the County.  The effort was spearheaded by Ramona resident Joe Cahak and Supervisor Dianne Jacob.

The new trail will accommodate pedestrians, equestrians and bicyclists.

The Ramona Sentinel reports that Supervisor Jacob said of the project, “This is another big part of the county’s efforts to preserve open space and then put the trails in so people of all ages can have the experience of enjoying nature by getting out and exercising whether on horseback or hiking.”
