$100 SPAY COUPONS STILL AVAILABLE FOR CATS, SOME DOGS ADDED

Also Get Dog Licenses, Microchips and Rabies Vaccinations Sunday Clinic

March 9, 2013 (San Diego) – In an effort to prevent the birth of unwanted kittens and puppies this time of year, County Animal Services will continue to offer $100 coupons for spaying female cats and also make the coupons available for spaying female pit bulls and Chihuahuas through the month of March while supplies last.  Coupons for $75 are available for both male and female dogs of other breeds and male cats.

Pet owners can pick up the coupons from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10 during a clinic at County Animal Services located at 5480 Gaines Street in San Diego. Owners can also get their four-legged family members microchipped, vaccinated and licensed during that time.

SECOND ANNUAL LAKE JENNINGS PHOTO CONTEST RUNS THROUGH MARCH

March 2, 2013 (San Diego’s East County) –  Photos taken at Lake Jennings during March may be entered in Helix Water District’s Lake Jennings Photo Contest.  Prizes of up to $100 will be awarded in adult and student categories. CERT COMES TO DESCANSO: FREE TRAINING ON DISASTER RESPONSE IN MARCH

February 24, 2013 (Descanso)--If a disastrous event overwhelms or delays the community’s professional response, Community Emergency Response Tea.m. (CERT) members can assist others by applying the basic response and organizational skills that they learned during training.  These skills can help save and sustain lives following a disaster until professional help arrives.

The CERT training will be held in Descanso at the Town Hall on March 8-9 and March 14-16.  The classes themselves are free.

SANTEE SHERIFF INVITES PUBLIC TO "COFFEE WITH THE COMMUNITY" FEB. 27

February 17, 2013 (Santee) – Here's your chance to get know more about the services of the Santee Sheriff's Station. Chat with deputies, crime prevention specialists and detectives from the station's Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) Unit. Speak with staff in a casual setting and exchange ideas and concerns over a cup of coffee. This event will be held Wednesday, February 27 from 9-10 a.m. at Kaffee Meister Coffee Shop, 9225 Carlton Hills Boulevard in Santee.

Community outreach is a top priority of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Reducing crime, making neighborhoods safer, and in general improving the quality of life for all of our citizens can only be accomplished through partnerships and team efforts. This event is not hosted.

START SMART DRIVING CLASS FEBRUARY 21

January 28, 2013 (Alpine) – In response to the alarming teen fatality trend the Alpine Sheriff’s Station is hosting “Start Smart” for parents and teens (ages 15- 20) on February 21 at 7 p.m. at the Viejas Training Center, 5000 Willows Road, Alpine. The goal of the program is to reduce the number teen driving related injuries due to drunk and distracted driving.

January 22, 2013 (San Diego’s East County) – Leash Your Fitness, announces a six-week series of fitness challenges to help you get in shape after the holidays—while getting a workout for your dog, too.

“Our first three challenges were very successful for all of the participants,” said founder Dawn Celapino, whose motto is “Life is short! Exercise with your dog.”  The kick-off to the Fitness Challenge will be held at Marking Pet Resort on Sunday, January 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The program runs for 6 weeks and is an online program open to anyone who wants to participate.

SHERIFF'S SEARCH AND RESCUE FIELD TRAINING JAN. 19

January 15, 2013 (San Diego County)--They answer the call anywhere in the county when someone goes missing and they do it for free. Volunteers are the driving force behind the Sheriff's Search and Rescue (SAR) Division.

On Saturday, January 19, 25 new volunteers will join 80 other members of the SAR Division in a qualifying hike at the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, 12020 Black Mountain Road from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Base Camp is at the Ranch House.

January 1, 2013 (San Diego’s East County) – Starting today, your boss can’t ask for your Facebook password or username, thanks to AB 1944. Neither can universities, due to SB 1349.

Duke Cunningham won’t be able to run for office again under AB 2410, which bans those convicted of a felony involving bribes, embezzlement of public funds, perjury or offense of the public trust from becoming a candidate for any elective office in California.

SIX-WEEK SERIES OF DOCENT TRAINING CLASSES FOR KNOX HOUSE MUSEUM IN EL CAJON BEGIN TUESDAY, JANUARY 29, 2013.

January 2, 2013 (El Cajon)—If you love history and want to learn more, volunteer opportunities are now open for Knox House Museum docents in El Cajon. Pre-registration of $37 is required for docent training classes covering the area’s post-Civil War settlement in 1869 to Cityhood in 1912.

Training sessions are led by Knox Curator, historian and author Eldonna Lay, who will provide overviews of national, regional and local history. Settler descendants and experts in specific subjects will present in-depth information featuring the Importance of the San Diego & Arizona Railroad, family and business reasons for relocating to the Valley and the elevated stature of gifted teachers and world and nationally famous entertainers and writers in El Cajon’s early decades.

January 2, 2013 (San Diego) -- Without carbon monoxide alarms, one neighbor’s faulty appliance in a multi-family dwelling can easily become a tragedy that affects ALL tenants. The California Office of the State Fire Marshal cited a recent study that found nearly nine in 10 California households do NOT have a CO alarm

All multi-family dwelling units, such as apartments, are required to have a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm by January 1, 2013. Landlords are responsible for installation, so for tenants whose units do not have a CO alarm, now is the time to remind your landlord by requesting one.

CHABAD LAUNCHES TORAH STUDIES IN EAST COUNTY

ENGINEERING WITH LEGOS® WINTER CAMP FOR AGES 7 – 12 YEARS

December 15, 2012 (La Mesa)--Become a Play-Well Engineer! Students explore concepts in physics, architecture, mechanical and structural engineering, from Gear Cars to Battletracks. The engineer-designed curriculum challenges new and returning students to reach higher level of engineering comprehension while having fun.

Camp meets four days, Monday, December 31 through Friday, January 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Camp will not meet on Tuesday, January 1. Over 1000,000 pieces of LEGOS® are used. LA MESA POLICE COMMENCE SPECIAL TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM

December 4, 2012 (La Mesa) – More traffic enforcement and safer streets are coming to La Mesa in the coming year.  Increased special traffic enforcement measures are on tap as a result of a recent $55,000 grant awarded by the Office of Traffic Safety to the La Mesa Police Department. The La Mesa Police Department is dedicated to keeping our roadways safe through both enforcement and education.
