July 29, 2016 (San Diego) – After getting an unholy taste of Canada for the first time, the Padres were eager to return home and face a familiar foe, the Cincinnati Reds, over the weekend.  Edwin Jackson started on the hill for the Padres against Brandon Finnegan for Cincy.

The Reds didn’t care that the Padres were finally home; they didn’t go easy on them.  Jay Bruce hit a sac fly in the first that scored Zack Cozart for a 1-0 Cincy lead.  Brandon Phillips singled, scoring Bruce and the Reds went up 2-0.  The kicker was Eugenio Suarez’s double that drove in two for a 4-0 Reds lead.  Alex Dickerson left the game with a right hip contusion after colliding with Travis Jankowski and was replaced by Christian Bethancourt.

The game stayed quiet until the fifth when Suarez singled, scoring two again and the Reds went up 6-0.  The bats stayed silent the rest of the night and the Reds took game one 6-0.  The Padres’ 25-game home run streak also ended tonight.

Game two is tomorrow night at an earlier time, 5:40 p.m.
