FIREFIGHTER INJURED, HOMES DAMAGED BY RECYCLING CENTER FIRE

August 3, 2016 (Spring Valley) — A firefighter was injured by a falling stack of cardboard while battling a blaze at a recycling center Tuesday morning in the 3800 block of Bancroft Drive in Spring Valley.

The fire damaged residences at a duplex next door and resulted in evacuation of several other residences.

Cal Fire and Heartland Fire crews responded to the blaze, which also forced closure of Bancroft Drive until the fire was contained two hours later.

Sheriff’s officials are investigating the cause of the fire.  Firefighters remained on scene until night time to douse hot spots.

The injured firefighter was treated at Sharp Memorial Hospital for fractures of the shoulder, hip and leg. 

Sheriff’s investigators were called in to determine the cause of the blaze, which was brought under control within two hours.
