August 12, 2016 (Rancho Cuyamaca State Park) - A new search will be mounted this Saturday the 13th for a horse missing since Aug. 7 in Rancho Cuyamaca State Park. The horse became scared bolted when its saddle flipped upside down. It is feared that Royal’s tack may have become entangled in brush, trapping the animal.

Royal is a sorrel-colored 10-year-old quarterhorse gelding with “White Star” markings and two indistinguishable brands on his right shoulder and left hip.  He weighs about 950 pounds. He was heading south toward Harvey Moore Trail when last seen.

If you’ve seen the horse or want to join the search, please call Shawna Kramer at 760-880-1714 for search placement.  Organizers of the search hope to form a line of searchers to comb the remote area. The best way to get there is stage at Sweetwater Parking, head up Harvey Moore, left on Dyer Springs.  There will be multiple search placement areas depending on rig size and search distance.

Hikers and walkers need heavy hiking boots and snake guards.  Bluetooth wireless speakers for phones or MP3 players and play horse sounds for Royal to reply to.
