August 13, 2016 (New York) - The long ball helped the Padres last night with a few home runs by Ryan Schimpf.  Let’s see if it helped tonight with Jarred Cosart on the mound against the Mets ace Jacob DeGrom.

Tonight, though, the Mets got the upper hand to start the game.  Neil Walker singled, scoring Jose Reyes and New York led San Diego 1-0.

The Padres weren't able to tie the game until the seventh when Yangervis Solarte launched a solo home run to tie the game at one.

But the Mets took the lead back before the Padres could take the game to extra innings with Kelly Johnson’s sac fly in the seventh, scoring Wilmer Flores and New York 2-1.

It looked like the game was over, but after Jeurys Familia took the mound in the ninth, Wil Myers greeted him with a game-tying solo home run to tie the game at two.  It wasn't over yet; we were going to extra innings.  But not for very long; Flores grounded into a fielder’s choice in the 11th, scoring Walker and the Mets took gane two 3-2.

The Padres and Mets will wrap up the series with an early game tomorrow at 10:10 a.m., so be ready to wake up.

Clayton Richard will be on the mound for the Padres against Steven Matz for the Mets.
