February 7, 2011 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police Department reports that late Wednesday night, February 2, they received a call from a hospital. The hospital informed police that a woman patient alleges that she was raped at an El Cajon residence by a San Diego Police officer and a woman.

El Cajon Police is investigating the case. ECM news partner 10 News cites sources who indentifed the officer as SDPD Vice Detective Arthur Perea.

Gary Hassen, spokesman for San Diego Police Department, said SDPD was notified on Thursday of the investigation. Neither police department has confirmed the officer's identity, however Hassen did not dispute the information published by 10 News.

"On Friday, the Chief spoke with the El Cajon Police Department,"  said Hassen, who added that on the same day, "The officer's police powers were suspended and his gun and badge were taken.  He is currently on administrative leave."   Hassen declined to say whether the officer was on duty or not when the incident allegedly occurred.

In addition to the ECPD criminal investigation, the officer faces scrutiny through an internal investigation at SDPD, Hassen added.

Determination of whether to file charges could take days or weeks, pending results of medical and forensic tests.
