ALLEGED ARSONISTS IN EAGLE FIRE ARRESTED

August 4, 2011 (San Diego's East County) -- Two men have been arrested for arson in the Eagle Fire investigation, Cal-Fire announced this afternoon.  A joint law enforcement investigation between Cal Fire law enforcement, Los Coyotes tribal police, San Diego County Sheriff and the District Attorney's office led to the arrests today of Jeremy Joseph Ortiz and Jesse James Durbin. Both men are 23 years old.

 

Ortiz, a Native American, was taken into custody today and booked into the Vista Detention facility. Durbin, who is white, was already in the Vista detention facility on a car theft charge, according to Sheriff records. 

 

Cal-Fire has not yet released details on the individuals or what motive may have been behid their actions in setting the Eagle Fire, which burned 14,100 acres and cost an estimated $15.6million in fire suppression costs.
