July 13, 2014 (Lemon Grove) – A multi-agency enforcement and probation compliance sweep occurred July 11 in Lemon Grove at the trolley station.  Out of 3,330 people checked for trolley fare compliance, 100 probationary searches leading to 53 arrests occurred.

Many of those arrested were offenders who had been released under the state’s prison realignment, which shifted responsibility for non-violent criminals to the local level.

Sheriff’s deputies, probation and parole agents participated in the sweep, dubbed Operation Lemon Drop, along with MTS code compliance officers.  The goal was to identify prolific offenders and their associates, as well as seeing if offenders are linked to known existing crimes.

The information and enforcement effort helped determine when and where to devote resources to address safety issues in neighborhoods, the Sheriff’s office reports.
