September 8, 2016 (San Diego) - The Padres won’t see the Red Sox for at least three years.  They must be glad about that.  Tonight they return to NL West play with a four-game weekend series against the Colorado Rockies.  Clayton Richard started on the hill for the Pads against Jeff Hoffman for the Rockies.

The Padres started the scoring in the third with Luis Sardinas scoring on an error to make the score 1-0 Padres. Yangervis Solarte singled and scored Jon Jay to make the score 2-0.  Alex Dickerson singled to score Wil Myers and the lead was 3-0 good guys.  Ryan Schimpf hit a three-run homer to make the score 6-0. Sardinas came back to bat and singled to score Derek Norris and the Padres took a touchdown lead, 7-0.  Oh yeah.  They're happy about being back to NL West play.

In the fifth, Richard added on with a sac groundout to score Dickerson and the Padres took an 8-0 lead.  Travis Jankowski added two more with a single up the middle to score two and the Padres were at double digits quickly, 10-0.

In the sixth, Schimpf struck again with a big double to right to drive in Solarte and the Padres led 11-0.  Sardinas walked home Dickerson and the Padres went up 12-0.

In the eighth, Norris added two more on a two-run homer, his 13th of the year and the Padres took a two touchdown lead, 14-0.

But no Padres game is perfect.  Cristhian Adames provided the only run for the Rockies on a solo home run in the ninth, but the Padres still came away with a big win, 14-1.

Game two is tomorrow night at 7:40.  Luis Perdomo will get the start against James Chatwood.
