March 21, 2016 (Peoria, Az.) - The Padres would have had a game tonight, but it was canceled in favor of a special episode of the Wil Myers Show.

In the fourth inning, after hitting Ivan DeJesus Jr. with a pitch, starter James Shields gave up a two-run shot to who else but Joey Votto to give the Reds a 2-0 lead.

But in the Padres’ half of the fourth, Wil Myers hit a pop up to right center that ended up out of the park to drive home Matt Kemp, who had singled earlier, to tie the game at two.  Yangervis Solarte walked and Alexei Ramirez drove the ball down the left field line to bring him home and the Padres went up 3-2.

Remember, this is 2016.  Pitchers can hit now.  Shields hit a line drive off of Cincy relief pitcher Layne Somsen that drove in Ramirez and gave the Pads a 4-2 lead.  The Padres loaded the bases and Kemp hit another line drive for another run, 5-2 Padres.

And then the Wil Myers Show aired as Myers lined it to right for three runs batted in and the Padres went up 8-2.  It’s still only the fourth inning.

Shields wouldn’t let Myers’ hard work go without punishment, however.  He loaded the bases full of Reds in the fifth inning and hit a batter, which walked in a run to make the score 8-3, which led to his being taken out of the game.

He was replaced by Leonel Campos, but Votto wasn’t intimidated; he smacked the ball out of the park for another two-run homer and the Padres’ lead was cut to four at 8-4.

The bats stayed quiet until the top of the ninth when--you guessed who--Votto drove in one run to cut the Padres’ lead to three at 8-5.  The Reds threatened, but relief pitcher Carlos Villanueva and the Pads defense got the final out to end the ballgame and give the Padres their first back-to-back win of the spring.  The Padres win this one 8-5.
