May 18, 2010 (San Diego) – Pazzaz, a nonprofit organization focused on helping under-achieving students attain academic success, will host two events to benefit disadvantaged students in the southeast San Diego region. On May 22, a pancake breakfast will raise funds for college scholarships. Then on June 26, the 12th annual Salute to Rising Stars Achievement Celebration will provide hope and determination to students to succeed in school and life.

Headquartered in the Euclid area, Pazzaz provides tutorial and homework to students in southeast San Diego. All proceeds from these events will benefit the youth tuition scholarship program, also known as Everybody Recommitting to Academic Achievement (ERAA).

Founded in 1997, ERAA is cosponsored by nearly 30 local community organizations and San Diego Unified School District staff. New ERAA involves a back-to-school conference, rally for education and festival for parents and students in grades K-12. More than 3,000 attended last year’s festivities, where Office Depot Foundation donated nearly 3,000 backpacks for the children.

The pancake breakfast will be held on Saturday, May 22 from 8-10 a.m. at Applebee’s Bar & Grill, 3030 Plaza Bonita Road. Cost is $10.

The 12th annual Salute to Rising Stars Achievement Awards will be held on Saturday, June 26th from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Location is to be announced.
