April 4, 2015 (El Cajon)--Look around, you will see that spring has arrived and a hot summer is fast approaching. The warm days seem to inspire many species of plants into an explosion of green growth and a kaleidoscope of color.

I snapped these photos at the Knox House Museum in El Cajon, at 280 N. Magnolia Ave. in El Cajon. www.elcajonhistory.org.

The pink Roses (Rosa) are blooming profusely, and what a picture they create! They smell is intoxicating.

Yet look closer - the pink Rock Roses (Cistaceae) are competing for attention as well! Plant these as a drought tolerant, hardy landscape addition.

Located at the east side of the building, these two attention-getting flowering plant varieties make for a beautiful sight, while complementing one another and adding a nice contrast to the place.
