PLANE CRASH KILLS PILOT PRACTICING FOR BORREGO AIR SHOW

April 9, 2010 (Borrego Springs) – Vandell Ellis Snow, 58, died of injuries sustained when a plane he assembled crashed in Borrego Springs yesterday shortly after 1 p.m. Snow was reportedly practicing for the Borrego Hammerhead Roundup air show, an aerobatics competition slated for April 9 and10.

According to the San Diego Medical Examiner, a friend who was nearby received an urgent call from Snow, who said his “stick” had broken. The friend watched in horror as the plane suddenly dived and crashed to the ground. 911 was called and deputies who arrived confirmed death at the scene.
 

Snow was a veterinarian and owner of the Santa Lucia Farm in Santa Ynez. He was alone in the plane.
