May 28, 2012 (El Cajon) – This morning between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., a series of “hot prowl” burglaries occurred at homes in the vicinity of Mollison and Bradley in El Cajon.  A “hot prowl” burglary occurs while residents are home, often at night while victims are sleeping.

“Several of these cases involved the suspect gaining entry to homes through unlocked garage doors,” said Lt. Tim Henton with El Cajon Police. Screens were removed from windows in some  cases.  Losses were mostly small, easy to carry items.

Police recommend that residents their doors and windows, especially at night, and to be vigilant about what is happening in your neighborhood.

“During incidents such as this, victims sometimes report hearing suspicious noises during the night, but fail to call the police department. Members of the community should immediately call 911 to report any suspicious activity,” Lt. Henton recommended. “When police are made aware of an incident at the time it is occurring, officers can immediately move into the area, and there will be a greater chance of apprehending a suspect.”

Anyone with information on potential suspects in these cases should contact the El Cajon Police Department at (619) 579-3311.  People with information on the identity of a suspect in these cases may also qualify for a $1000.00 reward by calling Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-TIPS.
