August 30, 2016 (San Diego’s East County) – SDG&E has responded to our inquiry asking why it took 16 hours to fully restore power to communities including Potrero and Dulzura.
The outage began Saturday night, with restoration to all homes by early afternoon Sunday. Some residents had to discard food in freezers due to the extended power outage in hot weather. The outage also caused losses and inconveniences to businesses, such as restaurants.
Whitney Eshelman, SDG&E communications manager, replied, “In order to safely restore service, SDG&E needed to replace a power pole and complete a helicopter patrol of the line, work that is safest to complete during the day. We appreciate our customers’ patience as we assessed the situation to safely restore power.”
The utility spokesperson did not clarify what caused the power pole to require replacement.
