February 11, 2017 (La Mesa) -- Councilwoman Dianne Jacob honored Katie Stinchcomb, a La Mesa resident, with a proclamation that recognized it to be “Katie Stinchcomb Day” on Feb 10th.
Katie was chosen for a variety of reasons:
- She is a sophomore at Steele Canyon High who has had straight As since elementary school
- She has been an active Girl Scout since kindergarten
- Donated 1,000 handmade crocheted baby hats to Grossmont Hospital as a Girl Scout and taught younger Scouts how to crochet
- She volunteers weekly as a Candy Striper volunteer at Grossmont Hospital
- She is a member of SPRITES: a mother-daughter philanthropical organization that donates time to East County organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Noah Homes, St Madeline’s Sophie Center and Katie’s favorite: Nat Cat where she pets and grooms the cats see https://www.spritesofeastcounty.org/
- She is Band President at SCHS and was the youngest member of the East County Youth Symphony (concert band)
Katie also has scoliosis; a sideways curvature of the spine which requires regular wear of a brace, but it hasn’t slowed her down. She’s achieved her accomplishments with no complaints and a great attitude, say her proud parents, Michael and Bonnie Stinchcomb.
