May 8, 2017 (El Cajon) - If you have not seen the play version of The Addam's Family, you are missing a classic. The same loveable characters are brought to life in a romantic comedy with little Wednesday all grown up and in love, comedy- you cannot help but laugh at with those old favorites.
James Austin chose a challenging play for his second time directing for ECVHS. A lot of us remember 10 major characters from a television show before he was born, but not his actors. Yet they pulled the play off. They mastered their parts with quality acting. They can still use some work on their singing but remember, this is high school and you aren't;t going out to a concert. The singers are in choral clubs, not drama.
Omar Garcia made an impressive Gomez with Wendy Garcia playing a strong Morticia. Virginia Morales played the spunky Wednesday and Chris Butler played her less crazier love, Lucas..Jorge Garcia played crowd favorite Uncle Fester. Annelea made a great Pugsley. Emily Due was kooky old grandma. Jordan Bradley excelled as Lurch. Thanks to Mr. Austin we are able to enjoy Keven as cousin It. What a great costume. Hauder Al-Naiem shone as Mal, a character who usually blends in. Sarah Aiden played Alice, his wife.
Shout out to Mrs. Perry and her students who painted the fabulous cemetery backdrop; it was perfect. My favorite song was "Crazier Than You", with Wednesday and Lucas. Kudos for having the play information on the electronic school marquee. If I saw that, I would come. However, that said they still have seats to fill. Come support them; you won't be sorry.
