March 6, 2010 (El Cajon) – A public hearing on the future of the East County Performing Arts Center (ECPAC) will be held on March 9 at 1:30 p.m. at El Cajon Council Chambers, 200 East Main Street. The City has proposed to close the theater for up to two years due to remodeling.

CitizensOversight.org, a watchdog organization, has posted the ECPAC conceptual plan on its website, along with other documents and article links related to the theater: http://www.copswiki.org/Common/CopsECPAC.

"We have found alternative venues but at a substantial cost," Kathy Stanner, marketing director for Christian Community Theatre/Christian Youth Theater (CCT/CYT) told East County Magazine in an e-mail.

Closure of the theater has also placed a financial burden on Grossmont Community Concerts Association, which must make do with performances at the Kroc Center Theater. The venue is only half the size of ECPAC, forcing GCCA to double its ticket prices for next season.
