January 24, 2017 (El Cajon) -- El Cajon will hold public hearings tonight, January 24, and again on February 14th to approve criteria for creating City Council District boundaries and a schedule for establishing district elections.
The meetings follow voters’ approval of a ballot measure last November approving a shift from at-large elections (in which all voters in the city vote for all five Council members) to district elections in which each neighborhood elects its own Council member. The goal is to provide representation to communities that may lack representation on the Council.
Tonight’s hearing will be at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers at 200 Civic Center Way, El Cajon 92020.
The public can speak at the hearing or submit written comments. All comments and inquiries should be directed to the City Clerk’s office at the address above, or by calling (619)441-1763.
The public will have an opportunity to voice their opinions on the criteria for establishing the district boundaries and the proposed schedule of events for establishing elections, as well as future composition of City Council districts in the city of El Cajon.
The City of El Cajon is endeavoring to be in total compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. This material is available in alternate formats such as large print or computer disk for individuals with disabilities and will also be made available in Spanish upon request.
