August 22, 2015 (San Diego)--Award-winning harpist Amy Lynn Kanner will perform a selection of classical and contemporary pieces on Sunday, August 23 at 3 p.m. at the Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor Center.

Kanner is a classically-trained musician with decades of experience playing the harp, piano and violin. Her concert at the Park’s Visitor Center allows for an intimate setting and a rich, acoustically-enhanced listening experience for the audience. The concert will be free for guests, though space is limited and concertgoers are encouraged to arrive early to the event.

Kanner has been playing music since she was seven years old. Her passion for music guided her undergraduate work at Oberlin College in Ohio, where she studied classical guitar, renaissance lute and baroque recorder. Kanner discovered the Celtic harp during her time at Oberlin and was immediately fascinated by the unique instrument.

After graduating from college, Kanner began performing at a variety of different venues. She has performed at San Diego libraries, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Scripps Green Hospital music series, the Del Mar Fair and more. In addition, Amy shares her musical gift by performing at galas and weddings. Some of Amy’s favorite performance pieces were compiled in her 1993 debut album, Garden of Delights.

A graduate of the one-year International Harp Therapy program and a Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner, Kanner also regularly plays soothing music at the bedside of patients undergoing medical treatment. The music that she plays to her patients became the inspiration from her second album, Music, Medicine, and the Magic of the Harp.

The concert is part of the Park’s free concert series, designed to showcase Mission Trails Regional Park as San Diego’s premiere educational and recreational resource. Admission is free. More information about the free concert series at Mission Trails Regional Park, can be found at www.mtrp.org.
