San Diego River Park Foundation announces a series of events to raise funds for establishing trails, parks, gardens and visitor centers along the 52-mile-long San Diego River. The events include San Diego Days, San Diego RiverFest, and a Healthy River Run.

San Diego River Days May 7-8 and 14-15 offer community events along the 52-mile San Diego River from the mountains near Julian to Ocean Beach’s Dog Beach. Activities include bike rides, cleanups, mountain hikes, planting along the river, educational venues, along with nature and history walks. At the conclusion of River Days on May 15, the San Diego River Park Foundation and more than 50 organizations of the San Diego River Coalition join together with families from throughout the county for RiverFest.

San Diego RiverFest will be held May 15, at the Qualcomm Stadium Practice Field, starting at 10:00 a.m. This year’s theme is “Celebrating San Diego River Parks & Trails.” Over 5,000 outdoor enthusiasts, eco-friendly nature lovers, pet lovers, and people from throughout the county are expected to attend. Bands will be featured on the main stage, playing music throughout the event; there will be booths filled with arts, crafts, jewelry, plants, historical and multicultural displays, as well as exhibits on water conservation, saving energy, the environment, healthy living and outdoor recreation.

The River Kids Zone has been added for this year’s RiverFest. A large area specifically geared for the kids, filled with hands-on activities, a balloon jump, rock climbing wall, and the Kids Education Stage with presentations on animals, health, and nature.

The Healthy River 5-Mile Run/Walk will begin before the opening of RiverFest. Serious runners will be taking off, from the QualComm Stadium Practice Field, at 8:00 a.m. Those who plan to take the trip at a slower; more leisurely (or brisk) walk will include moms pushing their little ones in strollers, kids of all ages, and pet lovers walking their dogs. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place winners. Ribbons will be awarded for kids ten and under, who complete the course. And dogs who cross the finish line will receive a special treat. This is truly an event for the entire family!.

RiverFest and the Healthy River 5-Mile Run/Walk is hosted by and for the benefit of the San Diego River Park Foundation, whose vision is to establish trails, parks, gardens, and education centers at points along the entire 52-mile river, saving it for future generations.
