ROCKY ROADS: HEAVY RAINS TRIGGER ROCKSLIDES, MUDSLIDES, AND FLOODING OF ROADWAYS

December 21, 2010 – CHP’s website reports that a “mountain side came down” completely blocking Rainbow Valley Blvd. at I-15, including a boulder the size of a vehicle. Many other area motorists faced obstacles in the following areas:

In Lakeside, a rockslide is blocking El Monte Road on a curve near Miss Ellie Lane.
State Route 79, just east of Sage Road, has had a mud slide with large boulder in the road.
About 10 large boulders a foot or more in diameter have rolled onto Old 395 just north of Pala Mesa.
A mudslide blocked Altito Way at Alto Drive on Mt. Helix.
In Ramona, Mussey Grade Road at Dos Picos Park Road had a boulder in the northbound lanes;
Westbound 94 had flooded lanes at Federal Blvd.
Rocks were reportedly blocking lanes on State Route 75 east of 15 in the Pala Mesa area.
A rockslide blocked State Route 76 just west of Rice Canyon in the Pala area.

State Route 78, just west of Horizon View Drive in Ramona, reportedly had mud and a boulder in the roadway.
Flooding was reported in the 10900 block of Roselle Street, Sorrento Valley.
A tree blocked First Street at Dawnridge Ave. in El Cajon’s unincorporated area.
A large rock was in the middle of Wildcat Canyon Road near Willow Road in Lakeside.

Rocks and mud were in the roadway in the 8900 block of Harmony Grove Road, Harmony Grove.
On Alpine Boulevard, near Peutz Valley Road, mud and boulders up to four feet in diameter blocked traffic.
Southbound Interstate 5 at state Route 52, motorists reported mud and other debris, CHP reports.
On southbound state Route 163, just north of University Avenue, Hillcrest, rocks about the size of soccer balls were in the road.
Flooded is reported in the 4400 block of Delta Street, Mountain View district of San Diego.
A mudslide occurred on Jamul Drive at Steele Canyon Road in Rancho San Diego.

There is flooded on Civic Center Drive on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5, National City.

Northbound Interstate 5, just south of Main Street, National City, has flooding.
More flooded is reported in the 10600 block of Queen Avenue in unincorporated El Cajon.
The eastbound National Avenue on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5, Logan Heights, is flooded.
Westbound Washington Street on-ramp to northbound state Route 163, Hillcrest,has been flooded also.
Additional flooding has been reported on the Carmel Mountain Road on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5, Carmel Valley, flooding.
Deep water is also reported on Vandegrift Boulevard east of Stuart Mesa Road, Camp Pendleton.
